Well I went down to the offices of the Newfoundland Dental Assn and both Tony Patey and Colleen were really excited about this. I had talked to Tony over the phone and he has taken the bull by the horns and is investigating the possibility of getting an account for the donations such that it will be non taxable.
Wow things are never simple and to have a registered account (ie charitable trust/foundation) that can accept donations to be able to be tax deductible is a big deal. How might we have guessed that Rev Can would have made it easy for us. No Way, its expensive and very cumbersome. Anyway we decided that we would try a different avenue and attempt to piggy back our donations onto the back an existing registered charity just simply for the convenience of it all.
So we shall see how it all develops. I had a good chat with Tony and we each had lots of suggestions as to how to proceed. Lots of people have been in contact and they have asked us to keep them posted as things fall into place. The ideas are great so keep them coming and as time passes we shall chrystallise a plan.
The exec of the NLDA meet shortly and I had a very positive phone call to Dr Marina Sexton our pres and she firmly endorses what is being done.
One of the disappointments is that we have failed to reach everyone in the Dental Community. It seems that the privacy rules are obstructing our ability to contact everyone. If you would like to be in the loop, whether you are associated with the dental community or not, we would love to have you respond, make your self known to us and of course join in.
There have been just some remarkable stories from here in St John's of schools and so on raising incredible sums of money for aid in Haiti.
